  student Global Aids Compaign

Together we can fight Aids globally

What is SGAC-Ug?

The Student Global Aids Campaign- Uganda (SGAC-Ug) is a non-political, interdenominational student movement that brings the students and young people together to take action to end the AIDS pandemic. We join with the young people across Uganda and around the world, who are committed to fighting AIDS as a global crisis. SGAC-Ug is a branch of the Student Global Aids Campaign in USA, based in Washington.

We pledge ourselves to the struggle against AIDS, the crisis of our generation. This struggle is a fight against apathy, against indifference and against injustice. We will not accept the myth that any of us is powerless, no excuse for inaction. By forming the global youth movement, we will rise to the challenge of our time, and we will halt this pandemic.

What is the mission of SGAC-Ug?

We seek to mobilize a multi-racial student movement, in partnership with students internationally, to make action against AIDS by making claims upon Governments and civil society, through education, Leadership training, informed advocacy and direct action. We demand for sufficient resources, effective utilization, prevention, accessibility of treatment and care as a matter of urgency.

What is the vision of SGAC-Ug?

We envision a world in which AIDS is no longer death sentence, in which every man, woman and child has knowledge, means and rights to protect him/her from infection. To achieve this world:
(i) We must remake our institutions to reflect a shared commitment to our common humanity.
(ii) We must confront the underlying causes of the AIDS plague - poverty, ignorance, inequalities of race, gender and class; sexual stigmas, and a politics that allows us to deny our responsibilities to and for each other.
(iii) Our global economy must be matched with a global conscience. We have the tools to fight AIDS: Prevention, treatment, supports for orphans and families, which must be utilized to save lives.
(iv) We must summon the sociopolitical and economic will to end the global AIDS crisis.
